TOWARDS A BUDDHIST SPIRITUALITY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY
(Dutch translation is possible)

Buddhist teacher David Brazier speaks on the need for enlightened spirituality in the contemporary age. Buddhism is more than meditation - more even than love, peace and compassion. It is a middle path between the extremes of materialism on the one hand and idealism on the other. This is an imperfect world in which rationality is not enough to solve all problems, yet in which no other course is meaningful than to solve them. We are imperfect beings and training in virtue is not enough to reform us, yet self-reform is the only way. How are we to live, knowing life end? How strive for the good knowing it is unattainable? Spirituality has to embrace the real nature of persons and the real nature of this world.

Dr Brazier is the spiritual leader of the Amida Order, an international Pureland Buddhist community based in UK and sponsored by the Amida Trust. The Amida approach is culturally and socially engaged with educational, social and community projects forming an essential part of its life of Buddhist practice and training. He holds qualifications in psychotherapy, social work, and management, a doctorate in Buddhist psychology, and is the author of seven books and many other writings on spirituality, culture, therapy, and dying.
